Batu Ferringhi with the whole family
This is the beach strip on Penang's north coast, about forty minutes from George Town and an hour from the airport. I keep an apartment here, so what follows is the version I give guests on the phone.
Beach first, market after seven
The night market runs from about 7pm to 11pm, seven nights a week.
Mornings belong to the water. By four the sun is off the sand and the strip starts waking up for the evening, and that is the moment to walk down for food.
The market sets up along Jalan Batu Ferringhi from around seven: clothes, bags, souvenirs, and hawker stalls behind them. Bring cash and small notes.
Book earlier than you think for a long weekend
Batu Ferringhi ran the second-highest hotel occupancy in Malaysia in 2026, at 74.1%.
The strip fills on Malaysian school holidays and long weekends, and it fills early. If your dates are fixed, call me as soon as you know them.
There is also a change coming to the beachfront. The Bayview Beach Resort is being refurbished and rebranded as Ascott Batu Ferringhi Penang, a RM107.62 million investment by Oriental Holdings, with work starting in the third quarter of 2026. If you had that hotel in mind for your trip, plan around it.
What you can walk to, and what needs the car
From Ferringhi Delima the beach and the market are both on foot.
On foot: the beach, the night market, the restaurants along the main road, the convenience stores, and Uplands International School.
Worth driving: Teluk Bahang for the Tropical Spice Garden and Entopia, George Town for the heritage core and the food, and Penang Hill on a clear morning. There is parking at the apartment, which is the part most people forget to check.

What time does the Batu Ferringhi night market open?
It sets up along Jalan Batu Ferringhi from about 7pm and runs to roughly 11pm, seven nights a week. Bring cash, because most stalls prefer it.
Is Batu Ferringhi a good base for a family with children?
It is the easiest part of Penang for one. The beach is calm, the night market is an evening out on foot, and Sakura Home at Ferringhi Delima has three bedrooms, a kitchen, and a playground in the grounds.
How far is Batu Ferringhi from George Town and the airport?
About forty minutes to George Town and roughly an hour to Penang International Airport, depending on traffic. Both are straightforward drives along the coast.
Can I get a whole apartment in Batu Ferringhi instead of hotel rooms?
Yes. Sakura Home is a three-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment that sleeps up to ten, so a group that would otherwise take three hotel rooms stays together in one place with a kitchen.
